This year, we welcome our first female Volunteer Instructor (VI), Miss Celeste Lim, to our Unit. Together with Mr Adam Ang and Mr Chng Guowei, let’s aim to scale greater heights!
In this year’s National First Aid Competition, our Unit has achieved better results. Our Awareness Team, led by SWO Anthony Tan (4E3), received 1st runner-up placing for Northeast District. Our team is also shortlisted as one of the 15 teams in the Finals. WO Aw Boon Fong (4E5) received the Director’s Award, the most prestigious award that can be given to a Red Cross Youth cadet for his exemplary behaviour and outstanding contribution to the Unit. He was also selected as one of the Valedictorians during the Enrolment cum Recognition Day organised by Red Cross HQ on 18 April 2015. Our Unit’s focus this year is more on community service learning projects. We visited welfare homes such as Red Cross Home for the Disabled, Sunlove Home, Grace Lodge Nursing Home and Ren Ci Community Hospital to bring joy to the residents. We did simple handicraft with the residents and also put up performances. We also participated in PERTAPIS TAJ Community Project which we were tasked to carry out cleaning of 1-room flats and we also raised funds for the International Bazaar through the sale of coupons.
We are very honoured to have two Volunteer Instructors attached to us from this year. They are namely, our alumni, Adam Ang and Chng Guowei.
The unit took part in the annual National First Aid Competition in March 2014. This year, the competition had two categories - the Case Management Team and the Awareness Team. The former was led by Jonathan Tan from 3S3, focusing on displaying team preparedness when faced with real-life emergency cases. The latter was led by Christopher Chua from 3S5, focusing on designing posters for a display booth, to promote first aid awareness among the public. The Awareness Team made us proud by emerging as one of the top 8 teams in Finals.
