In Seng Kang Secondary School, we believe that every child has talents and the capacity to learn and excel. The school’s approach to designing our curriculum is thus guided by this belief and seeks to meet the needs of Seng Kang Youth (SKY) by providing them with various platforms and opportunities to develop as well as express their unique talents while learning new knowledge and skills.
To support the children’s learning, the school places great emphasis on creating a conducive learning environment. Besides the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure that was specially designed to support teaching and learning, the school has also upgraded our I.T. infrastructure to support the students in engaged learning and development of 21st century competencies through Information and Communications Technology.
As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child. We are very fortunate to have a strong team of competent and dedicated staff who are always prepared to go the extra mile to help our students learn and grow. We are also very grateful to be supported by many committed partners such as the School’s Parent Support Group, the School’s Advisory Committee, our Alumni, other community partners, and external organizations. I am happy to share that the entire ‘kampong’ is ready to support us in raising our children in Seng Kang Secondary.
While preparing to welcome the New Year, we were greeted with the happy announcement that our 2016 batch of N-level students had done the school proud by achieving a significant improvement in the percentage of students qualifying for the Direct-Entry-Scheme to Polytechnic Programme (DPP) from 36.6% in 2015 to 62.3% in 2016. In addition, 19.4% of our students achieved a distinction for their English Language, an improvement over the 4.9% in 2015.We are happy to share that 71.5% of our 4NA students are eligible for promotion to 5NA and 100% of our NT students have passed and are eligible to continue their post-secondary education in ITE this year. Our students taking the GCE ‘O’ Level Examination have also done well. 81.4% of our Sec 4 Express students attained at least 5 O-Level Passes, an improvement from last year’s 80.5%. The percentage of Sec 4 Express students eligible for JC and Polytechnics have also increased from 29.3% and 90.9% to 38.7% and 91.0% respectively. Congratulations to all our graduating students!
A Japanese philosopher once shared, “One who lights the lantern for another, brightens his own way.” There is rich wisdom behind this quote. Besides strengthening our children’s academic learning, Seng Kang Secondary has also been actively providing opportunities for our children to work with community partners to contribute to the neighbourhood. Some of our community projects include taking care of senior citizens at the Zhi Zhen Tan Compassion and Care Charity Dinner, as well as fund-raising efforts to support charity organizations such as Sian Chay Medical Institution. Through such projects, our children are able to contribute actively to the development of the community, whilst inculcating the important school core values of Respect, Integrity, Self-Discipline Excellence and Resilience, hence strengthening their character.
What I have highlighted are just snapshots of some of the success factors behind our progress and achievements. We hope our school website will be able to provide you with a more comprehensive understanding of the dynamic curriculum and programmes offered at Seng Kang Secondary School, and are helping to pave the way for our advancement forward.
